MY BLOG MOVED ALREADY!

OH SNAP! MY BLOG MOVED ALREADY!:
Sorry everyone, had a problem with this guy, so moved to a new URL… so if you’re already following this one… go follow the new one! Pretty please!

Its funny looking back on this… a 48-hour project I...

Its funny looking back on this… a 48-hour project I directed in April of ‘07.

Like I’ve mentioned before, a group of us did 5 consecutive years of these, and they were some of the best times of my life. But what amazes is me is how much we didn’t know and weren’t prepared for, and how much it now feels like that was a blessing.

There’s so much stress in the pre-production we put into everything now, that it feels like when we actually get to production there’s just so much pressure to just knock the thing out and get through all of your days, that a lot of the charm can escape.

And I know what we do now is necessary, without it we would never get better, never advance to higher levels and work towards where each of us wants to be. But looking back on the BTS photos of this weekend, when my DP and I had never taken on something this big, much less in HD with a whole new post pipeline… but it still turned out alright… definitely not the worst one in the series… haha!

So I’m still working on the Steal The Scenery music...

So I’m still working on the Steal The Scenery music video, whilst simultaneously prepping for a music video shoot next Friday (that has a test shoot Saturday during the day), and a photo shoot Saturday night (immediately following the test shoot).

Honestly pretty happy and excited about all of this. This time last year I was moving back from Sin City, where I pulled off a record low 5 photo shoots in a 16 month span… just tragic.

So it feels good to be busy again, the busier the better. But I need rest so I can party with friends as well!

Steal the Scenery left tonight for a tour that takes them across the Southwest from now until Thanksgiving, and I wish those guys the best. Hope they come back with lots of stories of new fans, foreign foods, and romantic conquests.

My good buddy Daniel did this BTS shoot for the Steal The Scenery promo shoot I did a few months back, parodying a Gossip Girl promo campaign from an earlier season. Watch it to gain enjoyment… I watch it to remind me to lose weight =/.

whats been the most rewarding or satisfying project you have ever worked on?

Probably This.

And this reminds me that I need to really get on getting my vimeo set-up, since I’m hijacking this from Team Edge’s vimeo (that only has one video on it).

There’s a lot of personal story and history with this film, the last in a 5 year series running with my best friends.

We made a pretty serious and badass documentary about it… maybe I’ll post some snippets sometime.

Late Night Blogs and Texts...

My desk is covered with scattered CF cards, my DROBO is full of Steal The Scenery Footage, and my headphones are blaring sine Rocky Votolato as the clock nears midnight…

Prop 19 just failed to pass, Meg Whitman has the fresh sting of defeat on her cheek, and all I can think about is how much I need to pay my parking garage before I wake up to my car and bike being towed into oblivion.

Anyway, my main point of blagging is to say that I’ve been asked to work on something I can’t really talk about. But it should be awesome and I’m honored to have been asked to play such a big role.

The catch - it shoots in 10 days! Pants wetting: commenced…

But anyway, why post about stuff I can’t post about, right? Well, was just working on the beginnings of the project with one of the producers, and thought I’d share what EVERYONE should use for anything project/collaboration based: Basecamp.

To-Dos, Messages, Collaborative Writings, Milestones, Scheduling… this site does a great job of being the hub of any production, and with the way we’re all living now, its a great way to quickly say or share something to an entire team, and keep tabs on all of your projects to make sure a deadline doesn’t sneak up on you.

Anyway, as I start to work to collect my inspiration to upload for our new project… just thought I’d take a break to share…

Also, I hate having a photo blog and not posting photos… so here’s a photo of Producer/Writer/Director Extraordinaire… Tobin!

Sugar Suite - Christina

Christina is practically my sister. A really hot sister, whom I often call upon to be my master of the makeup arts (my site is lousy with her work).

She’s also crazy talented, and the Executive Pastry Chef for The Sugar Suite… hit them up for all of your delicious diabetes inducing needs.

She needed a headshot for her website, and there was no way I was going to go through the trouble of shooting a headshot without having some fun, so I told her to bring some of her weapons and we went to work. Here’s a preview!

-will

Steal The Scenery - Music Video

So I recently shot a music video with STEAL THE SCENERY, a local San Diego pop-punk band.

The shoot was a blast, and a big shout out to the guys @ Thirtysevenclick for producing the gig.

The narrative was all shot on Canon DSLRs ranging from T2is, 7Ds and 5DMkIIs. At some points we had about 5 or 6 cameras rolling on the action, and it was a huge undertaking, but we had an awesome cast and crew that busted their ass to give us great stuff!

We ended up shooting 2 days on location in and around San Diego, finishing up with the band performance takes being shot on my roof in downtown. No safety precautions, and a really stupid idea, but hey, the stuff looks great!

Here’s a few BTS shots… I’ll post some clips from the video down the road…

-will

Inaugural Post

inaugural… oh shit, I spelled that right first try! So far this blog is off on a good foot!
Hopefully I will keep this blog current with what’s going on with me… be it photo work, video work, or just staying up all night listening to sappy music and editing photos from happier times in my life.

Not too sure about the theme yet… might be changing a lot at first until I get something I can sleep soundly knowing represents my thoughts…

I’m using some pretty sweet software to type these blog drafts while I finish all of the site re-design and architecture. Shit, I spelled architecture wrong. I’m not as great as I thought.

But yeah, shout out to Deke @ the Foundry for tipping us off to Evernote.

Give it a try if you’re organizationally inclined, and have a million txt files scattered across 400 hard drives. I still have yet to migrate all of my stuff in, but I’m trying to be judicial about creating new notes only inside of the app. Keeps everything synced between the home computer, work computer, and iPhone.

Well, this has been a pretty successful first post wouldn’t you say? I hope so. Keep on comin’ back… I’ll be updating with previews of new work before you know it!
-will
